The Importance Of Sleep & Relaxation Prior To Exams

/  Blog   /  The Importance Of Sleep & Relaxation Prior To Exams

Have you ever felt like you just needed to go on a road trip, or get away from everything for awhile? Have you ever felt so stressed and overwhelmed by life at times that you just wanted to turn off your phone and just be alone with your thoughts for a bit? It’s perfectly normal to feel this way at times. We all need to relax and decompress every now and then. When taking an exam, especially one as important as the USMLE exam in NYC, it’s especially important to be at your best; and that means being “fully rested, before being tested.” Here are some tips below that may help keep you relaxed & well rested prior to taking your USMLE exam in New York:

Take a day or two off from doing anything

One thing most of us do far too often is “we don’t listen to our bodies when we need to rest or decompress.” If you’re overworked or you’re simply not getting enough sleep? It can affect how you perform on exams, and just your overall quality of life in general. Take some time to yourself every now and again. Whether it’s a weekend trip somewhere quiet, or a day or two during the week where you simply lounge around and do nothing all day. Giving yourself a physical and mental break from the stresses of the world is often essential to maintaining balance in your life.

Take a hike (literally)

A great way to find some inner peace and balance sometimes, is to simply interact with and enjoy nature or just being outside. It can be in the form of a late night stroll, a walk in the park, or an actually hike through the woods. Taking the time to venture out into the world and clear your mind can sometimes be the easiest way to decompress and relax. Before taking on anything like the USMLE exam in NYC, you should make sure you’re relaxed and ready to go. The same can also be applied to any big moment or exam you may be preparing for.

Some other good ideas include

  • Starting a Yoga routine
  • Meditating a few times each time
  • Taking baths every once in awhile
  • Or going for a weekend drive somewhere quiet

You owe it to yourself to be at your very best prior to any major examination in any field. The USMLE is something you’ve been preparing to take for years probably right?
