You’ve been studying and preparing to be a doctor for a long time. You’ve probably known every step you needed to take, every class you needed to excel in, and every book you had to read in order to make it to this point in time right now. Right when you need to start preparing for the USMLE exam. The only thing you may or may not realize is: “you’ve been preparing for it the entire time!” We’re just lucky to have you joining us here at NYCS Prep here in New York City and locations throughout the United States!
It’s important to realize just how fortunate we all are to live in such modern times. Often times we take things for granted. For example, just how fortunate we all are to live in a society that is governed by laws and regulated to ensure our citizens receive the best services any civilized society has to offer. These services include things we take for granted on a daily basis like:
- Law Enforcement
- Legal Services
- Public Services
- Public Transportation
- And Expert Medical Care or Services (this is where you come in)
Maybe you decided to be a doctor as a child? Maybe you found your passion for helping others when you were a little older? Either way, you’ve gotten to the point where you are ready to take the USMLE and make a difference in the medical field! We thank you for that, and New York City thanks you for that. NYCS Prep was founded with the hope and intention of helping New York’s next great doctors make a difference in our world. Do you know how essential the USMLE is to doing all of that? If not, we’re here to tell you!
It’s A Nationally Recognized Licensing Requirement
- Probably the biggest, and easiest point to make explaining the USMLE to anyone is “it’s a requirement for all doctors to pass the USMLE exam prior to getting their license to practice.” The following was taken directly from the USMLE.org website:
“In the United States and its territories, the individual medical licensing authorities (“state medical boards”) of the various jurisdictions grant a license to practice medicine. Each medical licensing authority sets its own rules and regulations and requires passing an examination that demonstrates qualification for licensure. Results of the USMLE are reported to these authorities for use in granting the initial license to practice medicine. The USMLE provides them with a common evaluation system for applicants for initial medical licensure.”
Think About it
You wouldn’t want an unlicensed contractor working on your house right? You wouldn’t want a mechanic working on your car who didn’t know how to put your tires on straight right? Well, the same thing applies for doctors and their patients! Throughout your hopefully long and successful medical career, you may be responsible for saving countless lives. You may even be responsible for helping to discover or innovate different techniques or procedures that revolutionize the medical field someday!
But what if you aren’t sure about something simple that 99.9% of doctors are sure about? What if your patient has a question about something you weren’t sure about because you never had to worry about it before? Thankfully, the USMLE is a nationally recognized standard examination that all licensed doctors are required to pass in order to care for any patient throughout the United States. Even if it’s hard for you to take, it’s ultimately the reason why the United States is consistently recognized as one of the top nations for healthcare providers in the world. We want our doctors to be prepared for anything and everything when it comes to helping to save the lives of their patients.
